Hewitt is the second largest city in McLennan County, located about eight miles south of its more populous neighbor, the City of Waco.


Our city is located in the "Main Street" of Texas in the center of Texas. We are located less than 100 miles from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to the North and Austin to the South.


Overview
The Department of Planning and Community Development coordinates activities associated with planning, conservation, housing, appeals, and historic. In addition to promoting economic opportunities for the residents of Hewitt, the Department manages the Building Division. 

General Information

Application submissions are accepted by the Planning & Community Development Department on or before the first Friday of each month. A Submittal Schedule is available for deadline and meeting information. Applicants should consult with the department before filing an application to discuss the feasibility of the request and any additional requirements. 
 
Staff Review
The Development Review Committee (DRC) will review the submittal to determine compliance with the general and administrative provisions of the Hewitt Code of Ordinances as well as Chapter 212 of the Texas Local Government Code. Once the DRC, determines the submittal to be administratively complete, it can be scheduled for consideration by the Planning & Zoning Commission or City Manager (based on the type of submittal).

Approval
Schedule for Approving Plats provides more information concerning the approval process for certain types of plats or submittals.

Upon approval of the final plat, copies of the plat will be forwarded for the appropriate signatures. 

In those isolated cases where a final plat is disapproved, the subdivider may resubmit a revised final plat within 60 days of the disapproval date without the preliminary plat becoming null and void. 
 
Filing
Once all the requirements are met as outlined in Hewitt’s Code of Ordinances, Appendix B – Subdivisions, Section 10, Final Subdivision Approval and Acceptance” and the original tax certificate is provided by the property owner, City Staff will record the plat in the office of the County Clerk of McLennan County.
