Charlie Turner is a native Wacoan who moved to the city of Hewitt on July 15, 1977. He was first elected to serve on the Council in 1981 and served until 1983. He was an original Charter Member of the Board of Adjustment from 1984 to 1993. Mr. Turner continued his public service on the Council in 1993 and served until 2013. He served as Mayor from 1996-2013. Turner was re-elected in 2019 and currently serves as Mayor. He manages The Tool Shed Thrift Shop which benefits the Friends For Life Organization, a 501(c)(3) charity, whose purpose is to improve the quality of life for seniors and people with disabilities.
Mayor Turner is an active member and current volunteer for a number of community service organizations. He is most proud of his appointment by Governor George Bush to the Regional Review Committee for the Heart of Texas Council of Governments. This committee is responsible for developing the scoring criteria that determines funding for projects submitted by cities and counties for Community Development Block grant funds. Mayor Turner is the current Chairman.
Charlie and his wife Brenda have been married for 45 years. They have one son Brad Turner. Brad and his wife Andrea have blessed them with two beautiful granddaughters Joley and Rachel.
